I moved from New York to Fircrest in 2008. At that time I was enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed at McChord AFB. My husband Ed and I were expecting our first child and we immediately fell in love with the quaint, neighborhood feel we found on Contra Costa Ave. We were immediately welcomed into the neighborhood and grew as a family, into the quiet and reserved pace of our new home.
After 5 deployments and a significant amount of time spent away from my family, I found myself at a crossroads as I was retired from active duty in 2010. With the support of my husband, I enrolled at Pacific Lutheran University and graduated with a degree in Sociology. I later pursued a Graduate degree at the University of Washington and received a Masters of Social Work. In 2012 our family reached a milestone as we purchased our first home on Buena Vista Ave in Fircrest. Many years and another child later, we are proud to say that we call our neighbors "family" and have found safety and security in our community knowing that we are so bonded.
During my time as a graduate student, I opened Pawsnpalsfircrest Fircrest, a local pet boarding, sitting and walking service. Through this small business I was able to meet and build relationships with fellow Fircrest residents and their pets. I also enjoyed pursuing the development of a community garden in Fircrest. From opening up my home to begin a resident led garden group, to years later still engaging city leaders in the effort to bring a garden to our city, every moment has been rooted in the effort to build community and bring sustainable, fresh produce to the residents of Fircrest.
I currently work as a Hospice Social Worker for Franciscan Health. I am honored to have found a career that is as rewarding as it is impactful. Working with the families of loved ones and individuals who are living their last days of life is difficult work that takes a certain type of skill set that I am proud to have. I also volunteer with some great NPO's in our community. I am a committee member for the YWCA of Pierce County's Civic Engagement Committee, a community volunteer for the Pierce County AIDS Foundation, a committee member for the Pierce County Coalition to End Youth Homelessness and most recently as a member of the Board of Directors for Cornerstone 253.
I look forward to meeting with all my Fircrest neighbors and learning about your interests and wishes for the city. Please contact me via email, phone or even drop by-we always have a couch and a beverage waiting!
